Homeless Family Member In Houston
I have a family member in Houston currently that as of yesterday is now homeless. To make a really long story short, they have had some medical issues due to a combination of epilepsy, cancer, and alcohol abuse and their partner they lived with has told them they can't come back to live there anymore due to these issues. This family member isn't on disability, has no insurance, and no income. They have relied on their well-off partner for survival for the past 7ish years and before that they were married to a person that had a good income, so they have never had to think about money or keeping a roof over their head. Now they are out of the hospital with nowhere to go and I'm hoping maybe someone here can help guide me on how to help them.
My own situation doesn't allow me to take them in as I believe they need more care than I can provide. They have basically burned so many bridges over the past few years that no other family is willing to take them in. I don't believe they could survive at a homeless shelter because of their medical needs but they were just released from the hospital because the hospital can't justify keeping a person when they have no pressing medical issues and no insurance/money. When I last saw this person a few days ago to help get them to the hospital they were barely able to stand on their own and have to wear adult diapers that they can barely change but the hospital won't keep them because of those issues alone, which I understand.
I'm just completely lost on how I can help them and all the "services" I've called in the Houston area won't deal with a person that isn't elderly, isn't receiving social security or disability, and has medical needs.
