Hiring Process for City of Houston

Can anyone that was hired and/or received an offer give details on the hiring process at the City of Houston? I applied, got interviewed, and later that day was asked to submit forms to initiate a BMV, background check, and employment verification. I've never done this prior to an offer being made so I'm looking for clarity. Thanks
