Hello—where to stay and thrive on a weekend trip in your city?

Hello r/Houston! I’ve never been to your city before, though I’ve heard some excellent things. Mostly. My girlfriend and I are traveling to Houston the weekend after Thanksgiving 11/26, 11/27, 11/28, to see a Texans game 11/28. I am wondering—what are the best areas of the city within a reasonable proximity to the game that are nice, safe, and fun, that we can book a hotel. We’d like to explore the city a bit! Also, any tailgating traditions to know of?
