HCAD appeal, Harris County, # of bathrooms, permits

I bought a house last year in Harris County (unincorporated/Houston area) and the bathroom count doesn’t include a 1/2 bath. I’m assuming it’s missing because the longtime previous owner did it without pulling permits (and judging by the fixtures, it was probably done more than a decade ago. This was an estate sale so I didn’t have an opportunity to ask about this or require the seller to pull permits prior to sale. So my question is about what happens when I go to HCAD to appeal my property taxes. I’d like to correct the record and come clean on the bathroom count, but will it be reported to the county? I’m worried that I will have to pull permits and have inspections which would be costly since the walls are closed up and it may or may not meet 2023 code. Any advice?
