Have any families resisted or seen real change in their HISD take-over targeted schools?
My child's school was labeled as a 'school of focus' and it has torn up our once decent to good school. certainly not A-rated but also not C or D rated.
The community is outraged but so far all we are at is an assess the damage and start planning phase.
Our teachers are getting ripped out. Students are basically doing test-prep work sheets. In a manner that kids who do not ace the worksheet first attempt are moved to the front (often bullied by teacher and classmates), and kids that ace it move to the back and play games on a computer. They literally have red, green, and yellow boxes where kids do a walk of shame and place their worksheets in the appropriate box each completion.
New teachers are coming in and they are the worst of the worst. Awful teachers with zero passion, empathy, or real certifcation, They just align to Mike Mile's "culture".
For us, we're kinda locked. I have 3 kids dependent on HISD. Private school is not affordable. Moving is not really feasible for us, but a consideration (we would just take a shellacking as our mortgage is at a great rate).
So my question to the community is, who has exacted real change within their schools going through this?
I would like to see real change and get Mike Miles out and return our school to what it was just a few weeks ago.
