Has Houston gotten greener?

For those who have lived in Houston for a long time, do you feel like the city has gotten greener (more trees/vegetation)? I always see trees being planted here and there around the city; new tree lined streets. However, I often see business cut down mature trees for no reason other than more visibility to their store. More tree coverage would be ideal for numerous reasons; less heat, proven to reduce stress, more aesthetic, etc.
