Has anyone taken the red coach bus?

I’m taking them soon and I am wondering if I can take a carry on and personal item as well as the two checked bags. I want to bring my strolling carry on and my personal item (my backpack) policy says only two checked bags and a carry on but nothing about personal item. Do they care? Or will I have to pay?
