Has anyone ever had to ammend/dispute a police report?

Long story short, was hit by a tow truck driver the day before Thanksgiving and his insurance is claiming no liability due to the police report. Stuck with an incorrect police report and vehicle in shop, spoke with my insurance and they said to try to get the police report amended. Has anyone ever had to do this? If so, how long does the process usually take?
