Harris Health uses outreach, focused care to tackle rising infant, maternal mortality

As Texas struggles with high infant and maternal mortality rates, Harris Health, the public safety-net provider in Harris County, is stepping up to address the complex issue with a comprehensive approach that includes both preventive and curative measures.

According to a Johns Hopkins University 2022 study, the mortality rate for infants has risen to 8% (5.75 per 1,000 births) and more than doubled in Texas between 1999 and 2019.
