Happy 832 Day
On July 13, all the OG Houstonians sit around a circle and pat themselves on the back to celebrate the city they lived in their whole lives. After all, that's the only way they could get a 713 phone number. And since they were born and raised here, they often only see the good this city has to offer.
Today – and this post – is not for them.
Today could be said to be the 32nd day of August. It is a day of celebration. Today we celebrate surviving the worst of the summer heat that none of us transplants are and the lack of tropical weather so far.
Today is for those of us who weren't born Houstonians, or even Texans, but got here as soon as we could. Our y'all's might still be shaky and some of us have still not been to a rodeo. But we're here and making it work all the same.
832 Day is a day where those of us who came from other places and have some perspective on how good Houston really is celebrates the good of where we live, while not being blind to the bad.
So, in celebration of 832 Day 2020, let's roast our hometown with love and a local beer and have a few laughs.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot – F**k Dallas.
Happy 832 Day! Please don't ban me
