Hair stylist recommendations for male with thick, neck-length hair

I've done a search for similar posts already but none of them are really recent. The latest relevant post is this, with not much valuable information.

I've been to a couple different highly rated salons, but every time I end up feeling like I chose the wrong stylist. My usual haircut is pretty simple. All I ask for is a layer trim, but I usually end up with uneven layers, especially near the back. I'd also be willing to go with a more elaborate style, but my issue is I have no idea what works for me besides layer trims. I want to find a stylist I'm comfortable with so that I can pick a new style more confidently.

Bonus points if the salon doesn't blast music at max volume so that I can actually communicate with the stylist.
