Guy drove away after car accident — lawyer up or insurance?

Hello,

I was going down the Southwest Freeway when a car was pulling out from a store last second without checking left for me. I braked as hard as I could, but it was raining and my car slid right into his truck. My car's entire front is damaged and I cannot ride it. Worse is that he faked that he was pulling over to give me his insurance, but then he just drove away.

The thing is — I got his license plate and recordings from my dash cam that got him pulling out onto me and driving away. I also got a police report and have shown the officer images and the video. At this point, I am unsure whether it'd be wise to file a claim with my insurance and let them handle it or get lawyers involved. I have UM/UIM coverage so I think I'll be fine.

I consulted a firm and they told me they'd file a claim against my insurance for me. Apparently, they will try to recoup my vehicle damages AND medical fees.

I was told advice from both sides, but am leaning towards lawyering up because I don't want to unintentionally mess up my case. Anybody have any advice?

Edit: They take 1/3 of the PI settlements. I think I get to keep the vehicle damages settlement.
