Got a job offer in Houston, any advice is appreciated!

Hi guys! So I got a very good and interesting offer. I have never ever lived in the US. I’m originally from Mexico but I have lived in Canada by myself all my adulthood (19 to my current age, 34). I have a good job in something I really love and I am really comfortable in Canada, but this offer is an amazing challenge, different position but same line of work. I have been in Houston and I like the city, but of course it is different to live than to visit.

What would be the first things I should do when getting to Houston if I accept the offer?

What should I be aware of? High taxes? High Insurance prices?

I would be looking to be close to the Willowbrook area.
