Good sources for public information (research)

I am looking to do research into residential availability around Houston. I am mainly looking to dig into residential ownership and what percentage is owned by corporations, companies, or legitimate individual ownership. Also looking to see how many homes are being actively lived in and which are permitted to rent or lease using services such as airBnb. Does anyone know a good place to start or have a connection within the city to get this information in a timely manner?
