Good/affordable apartments in safe areas

I’m a recent graduate and moving out to Houston for a job. I want to be in a generally safe area but also have rent under $800. There seems to be so many areas with high crime and I’m trying to avoid them but it’s greatly limiting my options. Any suggestions? Or know a good apartment?

More info: My job is in Sugar land but there aren’t many apartments there plus they are more expensive so I’m looking to live no more than 35 min away. I was originally looking at 1 bedroom or studio but I see that I may be able to live in a much better place with my budget with a roommate. I’m open to suggestions for places with both. I say under $800 bc im assuming utilities and all will be another $100-200
