Going to Houston/TX for the first time this fall. Solo. What spots should I go out to?

So for context I am 18. Gonna visit a couple college campuses and a friend. I’ve never been to Texas or Houston. I’m staying/traveling alone as well.

Any particularly neat restaurants or hang out spots, landmarks etc I should check out during my time there? doesn’t need to be anything big. Just nice local spots. I’m from California btw
