Going on a roadtrip to Bastrop, Tx

Hi neighbors! My family (2 adults, 2 kids) & I are going on a weekend roadtrip to Bastrop. I'm aware that it's a short trip haha.. We have little experience traveling outside of Houston, so I was hoping someone could share some good family friendly stops along the way. I have to mention that I'm trying to be as frugal as possible, so parks are a plus 🙂

We plan on taking the I-10/Hwy 71 one way & Hwy 290 on the other (to maximize any possible stops/attractions)
