George R. Brown Obsvervatory

I would like to bring a date to Brazos Bend State Park, and I want to show her the George R Brown observatory at night.

However, tickets are ALWAYS sold out MONTHS ahead of the viewing. That's just way too far in advance to plan a date, especially since I don't know what the weather will be like three months from today.

I know its sketchy, but does anyone know if they check for tickets? I went to a viewing once, and I don't remember anyone checking if you actually paid for the tour. I don't even care about the observatory. I just want to look through the telescopes of the amateur stargazers that they've got volunteering.
