From the midwest, where tf do I go in event of hurricane?

I lived in Kansas my entire life, been in South Houston the past year. News updates sound pretty bad, I don't know if I'm worrying too much or too little. I have no idea where we would go in Rosenburg.

I tried looking up storm shelters near me, found nothing. The FEMA website says nothing useful. Do people just stock up on supplies and hope for the best?

In Kansas we only have tornadoes, and most houses have a basement. Do people try to leave town before a huge storm hits?
