Houston has a great local comedy scene. I'll list what I know about here. Let me know if I missed anything. I focus on standup shows, but there are plenty great improvisational comedy shows to catch at Station Theater and Comedy Sportz.

WEDNESDAY, 8/4

THE HOUSTON IMPROV

– 7:30 PM – Zahid Dewji & Friends ($20 for 2) Local favorite headlines his favorite local club. He is a delight and you should check him out! More info here

– 8:00 PM – $2 Bill Comedy Show ($2) This weekly showcase only costs $2! Features $2 tecates, $5 tequila, and all day happy hour! More info here

– 10:00 PM – 10 Minute Open Mic (FREE) Local comics clamor to try more than 5 minutes on stage. The host, Will Loden, selects only the deserving. More info here

THE SECRET GROUP

– 8:00 PM – Draughts & Laughs ($5-12) Monthly comedy showcase where $12 gets you a branded pint glass, 2 beers from the featured brewery, and a comedy show. This month features Klaus Brewing! More info here

– 9:30 PM – The Back of the Bus Open Mic (FREE) One of Houston's favorite open mics is back! More info here

RUDYARD'S

– 7:30 PM – Live Laugh Love ($7) Come see the monthly tradition of "Live Laugh Love" at The Riot! A unique date night, therapy to get over a breakup, or just a fun time with friends, this show is a great time for everyone! Featuring standup comedy from some of Houston's funniest comedians on dating and relationships! Plus, have your relationship questions answered by comics during the comics panel. More info here

– 10:00 PM – American AF2: WW3 ($7) American AF is a monthly comedy competition that pits some of the best local comedians against each other, with the audience voting their favorite to win The Riot's championship belt. Come celebrate America with Patrick Eady and his hand-selected showcase of comedians that includes military veterans and other proud Americans! More info here

THE BRASS TAP

– 8:00 PM – Laughs & Liquor Comedy Show (FREE) Jeff Joe runs this nice open mic in the large open air room at Brass Tap on Holman. Also they have $1 wings! More info here

– 8:00 PM – Donnie Baker Live ($20) Presented by TX Racs. Featuring Jesse Peyton More info here

AVANT GARDEN

– 9:15 PM – (Upstairs) Goddammit! A Delta-Varied Comedy Show! ($5) is one of Houston's best comedy showcases. Drinks are irresponsibly cheap and the taco truck that's on the property is world-class. Every week, the show features some of the best comics in Houston, as well as frequent drop-ins from out-of-towners and famous comedians. Doors at 8, show starts at 9 (usually 9:30, realistically). Dusti Rhodes, Kate Vance, Grace Kirk & Corlis DeLauren have come together to bring you Houston's best comedians and drag queens for a breakfast that will kiss your hangover goodbye! More info here

– 8:00 PM – You Look Like Roast Contest ($10) The Riot presents "You Look Like," a new monthly Sunday show featuring comedians going head to head in roast battles, while the audience decides who is the The Riot's roast champion. More info here

– 8:00 PM – Chill, Bruh! Comedy Show (FREE) Chill, Bruh is a weekly Sunday comedy show that will exhibit some of best comics around. It’ll be every Sunday at liberty Station (2101 Washington Ave), doors at 7pm and the show will start at 8pm and it’s pay what you can! This is one of the coolest shows in Houston. AXELRAD

– 8:00 PM – Punchline Mondays (FREE) Wonderful weekly comedy show! Jeff Joe hosts and puts together a stellar lineup each week for a show upstairs at Axelrad. More info here

RUDYARD'S

– 8:00 PM – Open Mic (FREE) One of the best comedy open mics in the country happens every Monday at Rudyard's. They've got low ceilings, excellent pub food, and a full bar, making it feel like an old school comedy club (minus drink minimums), plus, the lineup is curated by Houston's comedy queen, Dusti Rhodes!
