For those missing Christian Vazquez:

I was totally in the "extend Vazquez" boat at the end of last season as were many others, and I still see comments from people wishing that we had extended him. But take a look at his numbers so far this year vs Maldonado's:

Vazquez: .233/.302/.259 for a .535 OPS, 62 wRC+, and .1 fWAR for $10M AAV (3 yrs).

Maldonado: .207/.294/.314 for a .608 OPS, 73 wRC+, and -.2 fWAR for $4.5M AAV (2 yrs).

So, as of now, we essentially have the same (slightly better) offensive production and better defensive production at the cost of worse framing for half the price of Vazquez. Also, Maldy's contract is up at the end of this year and we can either resign him for a short contract on the cheap or let him go to make room for guys like Yainer and Lee instead of being tied to Vazquez for another two years.

Just something to think about.
