First timer to Houston

Visiting family and planning to stay in a hotel. What would be the best area closer to the airport as I will have a early morning flight. I need a hotel in a safe area as we have women and kids in the group. Will be renting a car as well. Prefer Marriott or Hilton group. Also read about some flood alert. Is it going to be bad? Is it safe. Pls advise.
