First Timer in December

Hi all, I'm visiting Houston for the first time in December from the UK and was hoping someone could help me out please, first off all I'm looking at staying at 'Downtowner Inns – Houston Downtown & Convention Center' mainly because it's cheap. Has one stayed her before and can tell me what it's like?

Secondly I'm looking for some good country bars to go to, is there any? and where abouts are they?

And finally is there anyway to get to the space station with out getting a taxi or driving?
