Favorite sushi joint that isn’t focused on westernized sushi rolls?
I feel like many sushi places in the mid price range I've been to in Houston have not really stood out and I might as well be going to Kura for a lower price. I'm so over rolls that have stuff like avocado, cream cheese, imitation crab, etc. I'm more into sashimi, nigri, or simple handrolls. I don't hate rolls totally as a concept it's just that so many places repeat the same ingredients as listed above and I'd at least like something more creative.
Personally I really enjoyed Kyodai Handroll bar because of the great menu, quality of fish and great prices but it was in Dallas 🙁
Edit: I'm in southwest Houston if that helps narrow anything down
