Favorite stops between Houston and New Orleans?

Taking my wife on a trip to NoLa for funsies in June; probably going to drive since flying only saves a little time and ups the cost by a lot.

Any stops y'all like to make to and from? Food, shops, historical stuff, off-the-beaten-path places, whatever. If we're driving might as well make it part of the experience!
