Favorite stops between Houston and Fredericksburg?

Going on a trip soon and curious what is everyone's fav pit stop or restaurant along the way to Fredericksburg? We're open to a little bit of a meandering drive but would like to avoid going directly into Austin or San Antonio. TIA!
