Favorite camping spots?

Wife is from England and I wanna take her camping. We live in Houston.

Now, I’ve lived in Texas my whole life and know around this time of year it’s hotter than satans gooch.

Are there any locations that might be an exception to this? Willing to drive a few hours. Even looking at some out of state parks. What are your recommendations for camping with a first time camper?
