Fabric Surplus Stores

Hi! While I’m not new to Houston at all, I do come from/am used to Los Angeles’ city layout/stores. Becoming an adult who can drive has drastically helped with getting more acquainted with Houston, but even after 4 years of this new freedom… I do have one persistent issue.

Over there, we have in our fashion district a clump of wholesale, surplus, clearanced, or just plain dirt cheap fabric stores; usually locally owned. They would have special sections for $1 or so a yard of cheap fabric, or would sell “outdated”/clearance fabric by the roll/pound (or just discounted).

I was wondering if Houston might have locally owned or surplus shops like that? Maybe not as dirt cheap, but at least a different budget friendly option than scouring my local Hobby Lobby and Jo-Ann’s for fabric…

I’ve already tried looking it up online and asking around for advice from friends/at-the-time classmates, but so far I’ve been directed back to both Hobby Lobby and Jo-Ann’s, or pointed towards high end shops/shops that show as open on Google, but I can never find open. Ive pretty much resorted to thrift store curtains/sheets to practice with, but lately it hasn’t yielded me the amount and type of fabric I need… It would be great if someone can help point me in the right direction! 🙂
