FAA proposes $3.9M fine on Southwest Airlines over alleged weight issues

The Federal Aviation Administration is proposing a $3.92 million fine on Southwest Airlines over weight calculations that were allegedly incorrect, the agency announced Jan. 10.

The FAA said in a statement that between May 1, 2018, and Aug. 9, 2018, Dallas-based Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) allegedly operated 44 aircraft on more than 21,000 flights that had “incorrect operational empty weights, and center of gravity or moment data.”
