EZ tag through non EZ tag toll lane?

What happens if you drive through a 'non EZ tag traffic' toll lane with an EZ tag?

Those lanes are often less congested and I imagine they they have EZ tag readers so I'm tempted to assume you could drive through with your EZ tag same as the other lanes… but I could also see them charging a penalty or something. Anyone know?

I've gone through it a few times but my parents still pay my toll bill so I don't have visibility + why remind them they're still paying it…
