The Texans have had the No. 1 overall pick three times in team history. Mario Williams, the choice in 2006, is the only one of those selections who ranks among the top 10 players in team history.

The Texans didn’t need the top pick to get Arian Foster. It didn’t need a pick at all, since he went undrafted before putting up career numbers that match Hall of Famer Terrell Davis.

J.J. Watt was the 11th player taken in 2011, Brian Cushing went 15th in ’09 and Duane Brown was still on the board at 26 in 2008. DeAndre Hopkins was the 27th pick in 2013.

The Texans don’t need the No. 1 pick, they need the right picks.
