Evictions in nearby apartments will likely impact you
Moved into an apartment a few years ago. I sold my home on the west side after almost 25 years.
An apartment is far from ideal, but my life changed greatly so free maintenance and lawn care was an advantage. I moved in shortly before covid and really didn’t notice much difference until about 6 months ago. The place I’m in raised rent greatly (over 30%). I thought about moving, but I pushed back before doing so. I figured it was worth a try. I’ve been a good tenant and after a bit of kind conversations they increased my rent by dollars rather than hundreds of dollars.
It seems a few of my neighbors were evicted. Maybe for cause, maybe for not pushing back. Either way they left suddenly. I lived in this apartment for years and never had an insect issue, but within days of them leaving I’ve had a battle. It’s been nuts.
My guess is due to the eviction process they don’t remove food or other belongings. I’ve used professionals and countless store bought killers. It helps, but I’ve found a combination is the only “remedy”. After about 4 months I now see one every other day or so. I won’t be pleased until that number is zero per year.
Insert a conversation of fogging my place with dog and cat in my vehicle and the cat “fogged” us out of the vehicle.
Because of where I’ve found certain pests I’ve replaced every counter top appliance. If you have a kcup coffee maker do some googling. I tried to clean it, but gave up. I miss my old coffee maker.
I went from zero intruders to dozens daily overnight. Even today my countertop appliances live inside zip up Christmas ornaments bags. I realize it’s not 100% but far secure than nothing.
My point of all this mess is please watch yourself and any evictions nearby. They might impact you.
