European-style bakeries in town?

Hi there, I have a friend who I get together with most weeks from overseas who often finds himself disappointed with American-style bakeries because, in his taste, we Americans like too much sugar in our pastries (how dare he!). It’s sort of become a recurring thing we joke about whenever we are out at a cafe or coffee shop and he (inevitably) is disappointed when he orders dessert. So, I had a question: do any of you know of any good, perhaps more European-style, bakeries here in Houston that are more restrained as to the amount of sugar they use in their baking? I wanted to get him some as a surprise since he’s been having a bad week and wasn’t sure if anyone would have a lead. Thanks,
