Entry level tech/software engineering jobs in Houston: How’s the market for somebody going back to school for a CS degree?

I'm about to start working on a CS degree with the plan to move over to a CS/SWE type role over the next few years. I currently live in Houston and don't suspect that will change over the next few years.

I'm just curious how the Houston market is for entry/junior level software engineering or related jobs. I currently have a job making low six figures, but it is shift work in the hospital and to be honest, I really want to get away from shift work and working weekends/holidays at some point after doing it for over a decade.

I expect I'll be taking a pay cut if/when I switch over, but I guess I want to get some sense of how the Houston job market. I know we aren't a tech hub, so do people have a hard time finding CS/SWE related jobs, especially at entry level? Does pay get better with some experience or is pretty low overall, no matter the experience level?

I'll also mention that I'm in my early 40s so I don't really have an interest in the hot tech startup space in places like Austin, because I'm assuming my age would be a huge negative factor with those type of companies.

Anyways, I look forward to hearing what others have to say. Thanks.
