Electric companies are now charging a deposit on your account if you even pay your bill ONE day late twice in 12 months. to get it

I logged in to pay my bill and it’s saying I have a 900 dollar deposit amount. I called them and they said since I have made a payment after the due date twice in 12 months that I now owed them 900 dollars! and they said they just started enforcing this in September! This is honestly insane and just a money grab to get the money back that they lost during the winter storm! I honestly can not believe this. The only way to get it waived is to sign up for auto pay. This is stuff is getting out of hand and it looks like every company is now doing this after going on power to choose and reading the terms of service on other companies.
