Early studio lease termination because of VISA not renewed – Montrose area

Hi everyone,

I am reaching out to the Houston's community because of an issue I have with my visa's situation and my apt lease.

I am from Europe and work for a european company in Houston. For internal reason, they didn't renew my visa and I had a lease for an apartment in Montrose until December 2025. My landlord is pretty nice (she lives next door) and told me that as long as we find a new tenant, that will be okay for her. Of course, if we do not find anybody before May 31st, I will have to keep paying the rent even though I am not here anymore.

So first, if anybody has experienced the same situation or knew somebody that had the same situation, please let me know your thoughts. Maybe they are some good things to know in order to help.

On a second note, the apartment is a pretty cute, original and it’s nice studio on Dunlavy St. between W Gray and Westheimer Rd (it’s above a two-car garage independent from the duplex that faces Dunlavy) in the heart of Montrose. I lived here with my fiance (and a small dog) very comfortably. It's pretty big (880 sq ft), bright, and the landlord maintains the pest control (which is great for the area). There is even a huge patio. We had plans to install a huge curtain so we could divide the large space available. Although, we ended up not doing it knowing we were leaving. That could be a cool project for the next tenant.

I didn't really want to leave this place, but I will have to. If you know anybody that would be interested by a very well located and quiet place, in the heart of Montrose, brand new quiet A/C with all the bills paid (which is awesome too!), do not hesitate to share the Har.com post!
