An explosion at the bar also damaged a nearby food truck, and shook the walls of homes in the neighborhood
An explosion rocked a popular club and brunch spot in the Third Ward early this morning.
The explosion happened just before 5 am at Bar 5015, located at 5015 Alameda Road, ABC 13 reports. Video from the station shows heavy debris scattered throughout the restaurant’s block. Officials have so far reported no injuries, but nearby residents say the blast broke home windows and knocked photos off walls. A food truck nearby was also completely destroyed, and soul food staple Alfreda’s Cafeteria had broken windows and other damage. Investigators just began digging into the cause, but early reports indicate that the damage was caused by a gas explosion.

It’s been a rough week for Bar 5015, which invited some social media blowback earlier this week after announcing a new dress code that, among other things, prohibited guests from wearing sports jerseys, baseball caps, long chains and “revealing” clothing. Several people on Twitter commented that the new dress code was racist.

The spot had apparently reopened just a few months ago after being closed for more than a year for renovations. Back in June of 2019, Eater reported that the owners of Turkey Leg Hut were planning on buying the spot, but a representative for Turkey Leg Hut said earlier this week that they were no longer involved in Bar 5015.
