Dutch citizen taking a internship in Houston. Computer science Bachelors.

Hello,

I would like to take a internship in America. I'm from the Netherlands and in the 2/4 year of a computer science bachelors degree. In my third year I'm going to have to do a internship. It will be 20 weeks long fulltime. I'm choosing US because my pretty lady lives there, and I would like to live together for the period of my internship. I have some doubts about internships comparing them to internships in the Netherlands.

In the Netherlands its usual for company's to pay their Interns around 200-500 euros a month. Because we might need some time to our selves to do schoolwork, like documentation of the project I am working on, or other requirements we get from our school. My gf says that is not really a thing to pay such few money to Interns. it will be either none, or a minimum wage like ur an actual employee.

Is this true? Because if they do pay me a decent amount for an intern role that doesn't know much yet, it sounds pretty appealing. Moving there for a few months will have quite some expenses. Most expensive thing I'm afraid of is a car.. If I apply to some big company's would they offer me a car to get around? or is that not a common thing there. Just wondering if i could live there comfortably as a foreign taking a Internship.

overall I guess I'm looking for people who know something/anything about Internships and their pay/ willing to help me stay and the difference of Dutch and US Internships.

If my lady and I are looking for a nice/cheap place for us to live together. Any recommendations? Are apartments with existing furniture a thing? We probably need to buy a bed/table and stuff Since my gf does not own a car and wants to work Aswell of course. she needs something that's closeby our apartments. She works in the medical field as caretaker usually.

Any information that you think would help is welcome 🙂 Incase you do not recommend Houston for Internship. Got better recommendations on places?
