Dusty Baker perspective post
Let me put this in context because his career as a player and manager spanned over 50 years.
He debuted the same season Mickey Mantle retired (1968), was Hank Aaron's teammate for six seasons, retired as a player the same season Mark McGwire debuted (1986), managed Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, Joey Votto, Bryce Harper, and Jose Altuve.
He went from being a teammate of Braves starter Stu Miller (born December 26, 1927) in 1968 to managing Yainer Diaz (born September 21, 1998) in 2023.
Sure, his managing decisions in the latter part of his career may have been frustrating and outdated but he helped guide the team through the sign stealing mess when it became public and helped keep the team level-headed amid all the outside noise.
Hope he has a happy retirement!
