Driving to Houston for the first time any tips on areas to avoid?

I’m staying at a hotel close to the George Bush Airport, my biggest concern is my car getting stolen anywhere or my wheels if anyone has recommendations on where I can put my car so I can potentially avoid this as much as I can. How safe is it to walk downtown Houston at night? How safe is parking near the strip of bars specifically Main and Preston Street? Should I carry a pocket knife in my bra? Is it better to just order an Uber everywhere? And lastly any good soul food to try? Or any recommendations for sweet spots to have drinks and good food.
