Driving License change from out of state – Next appointment in 2021

Hi everybody, I just tried to setup a DPS appointment now that the offices are open. I need to change an out of state DL to a Texas DL. I am already way over the 90 day threshold, especially with COVID.

The first appointment I can get is in January next year. Am I missing something here or is that the best I can deal with? What do I need to do if I get stopped and asked for my license in the meantime? Show my out of state license and perhaps proof of the January appointment?
