Dog dermatology for dog with highly antibiotic resistant ear infection
Houston, we have a problem. I have an amazing dog who has had constant ear infections for year. We've been working with a vet clinic for the past several months attempting to clear the infection with limited results.
Without going into the dog's entire medical history, he has antibiotic resistant staff and pseudomonas growing in the ear. We've done multiple rounds of "ear packing" and one round of "ear drops" with specially formulated Amikacin antibiotics.
We ran out of the ear drops two days ago and his ear is "goopy" again. I called the vet clinic and unloaded about thousands and thousands of dollars and no real results and yadda yadda – and they called and basically said he needs a specialty dermatology veterinarian who can use special tools and video scopes to get his ear really clean of contamination (so what the hell have I been paying for every two weeks, but that's another question) before formulating and applying more medication to the ear.
He is on literally THE LAST LINE of defense drug available for animal use.
The vet clinic was supposed to email me a list of clinics capable of what he needs so that I could select one, they'd then make the referral and we'd START ALL OVER A FRIGGIN GAIN with this.
They never emailed. Checked their cute little proprietary app, my email, my spam and had my partner check his email and spam.
Nothing.
So, Houston, ya'll tend to be good people, better than you get credit for. Does anyone have a recommendation for a kick ass dermatological veterinary clinic that is capable of treating (And curing) a highly drug resistant ear infection that was (today, after dicking around for months) described to me as "The worst of the worst case we've seen"?
My dog is miserable, again. I'm out thousands of dollars for what, at best, bought him some symptom free time, and now they've not even provided the referrals they promised.
Anyway, if you've read this far, thanks. I am feeling excessively upset, depressed and dejected about this whole thing. (Yes, we're treating for allergies).
