Do I have to give up my out-of-state license?

Recently moved to Houston from KS; I read online that I have to surrender my current out-of-state driver's license to get a Texas DL. Is that true/is there any way around losing it for good? I keep a collection of all my past licenses, school IDs, etc. just as memorabilia and it would be nice for me to keep this one as well.
