Did anyone live in Houston House in the mid 2000s before the remodel?

I was thinking about my time there and wondered if anyone else shared the same Houston House experiences in the mid 2000s. Houston House was an absolute s**t hole. I would always pass by going 45N and think, "One day, Im going to live there." Well we made it for $1200/mth "all bills paid" corner unit, facing west into downtown. The biggest balcony ever – that was awesome. Then you move in and…

There were roaches like you would never believe. They would crawl through the pipes in the restroom from one floor and come out of the vents on the next. The water was kaka brown with rust from the old rigid pipe plumbing. You couldn't use the dishwasher because it left a sediment film on the glasses and plates. Much less use the tap so eveything was bottled water. Washateria was so sketch at night, like a serial killer was waiting for his chance to fulfill his fantasy. I got my front and back winshields smashed one night by someone in the underground garage.

Of course, they never show you any of this because you see a model unit and everything is just perfect. When you get your unit, then the realness of it all hits. Good ol'switcheroo and you're locked in because you signed a year-long lease. Community water billing, which was complete BS because i knew people in the building who never paid it and leasing staff could care less. They were getting a discounted unit and just trying to get through the day.

We partied like hell in that unit. After a year of it, we decided to move out and hit us with a letter saying we weren't getting our deposit back because the carpet was stained at it was going to cost 900$ to replace it. The final water bill was 250$ as well. Needless to say I told them to kiss my ass and put it on my credit and/or take me to court for it, to which they never did either, but we did lose the deposit.

Fun times and life lesson learned. Never do that again unless it's the later towers that have been built here in town.
