Did a GM Mock Draft Here on Reddit as Texans. How did I do?
Texans here. Went in hoping for Reagor-Uche second round, but that didn't happen. Other notes – I tried a few trade-ups in the third for Madibuike and Elliott, but they went. I waited too long on Aiyuk and Pittman in the second, which bit me in the butt. In the end, I ended up trading around a lot. Here's what I did:
TRADE: HOU trades 2.40 to BUF for 2.54, 4.128, and 2021 3rd Why?: Reagor went above me and I wanted out. Picked up draft capital for next year and an extra pick this year.
2.54 – Terrell Lewis, EDGE, Alabama Why?: A versatile EDGE rusher for a defense lacking 'oomph'
TRADE: HOU trades 2.57 to DEN for 3.77 and 3.97 Why?: Picking up more draft capital for the team.
TRADE: HOU trades 3.77, 3.90, 4.111 and 7.240 to CIN for 3.65, 4.107, and 7.215 Why?: We started the day with round 3. Gave me a chance to negotiate for the top WR on the board, even if he was a slot WR. I grabbed an outside WR later.
3.95 – Van Jefferson, WR, Florida Why?: And here's my other WR.
4.107 – Logan Stenberg, G, Kentucky Why?: Strong run blocking mauler. Best OG on board
TRADE: HOU trades 4.128 to NYJ for 5.158 and 6.191 Why?: Again, more draft capital.
5.158 – Benito Jones, DT, Mississippi Why?: D.J. Reader replacement
5.171 – Alohi Gilman, S, Notre Dame Why?: Third safety and immediate special teams contributor
6.191 – Stanford Samuels III, CB, Florida State Why?: One of my favorite later round CBs
7.215 – Colby Parkinson, TE, Stanford Why?: He's a WR/TE hybrid mix sort of, but he could fit our offense.
TRADE: HOU trades 7.248 to WASH for OT Geron Christian Why?: They put him on the block. He can be a project OT for us
7.250 – Michael Warren II, RB, Cincinnati Why?: Power back for the offense
So, to sum up:
EDGE Terrell Lewis
WR K.J. Hamler
WR Van Jefferson
OG Logan Stenberg
DT Benito Jones
S Alohi Gilman
CB Stanford Samuels III
TE Colby Parkinson
RB Michael Warren II
Plus, OT Geron Christian from Washington
