Despite an ‘Arctic Blast,’ These Houston Restaurants Are Still Open During Winter Storm Enzo

Houston is covered in snow, but some restaurants are still open. Here’s a running list of what’s open and where to warm up during Enzo
Winter storm Enzo has left the Houston area covered in a blanket of snow, ice, and sleet that has made roads unsafe to travel. As a result, many restaurants have prepared by closing down on Tuesday, January 21. But some are staying open.
Restaurants like Dish Society will still serve local diners on Tuesday, while others continue to assess the weather conditions. Rado Market in Third Ward had initially planned to stay open and serve as a warming center but later announced it would close due to unsafe roads. Many restaurants anticipate remaining closed on Wednesday or opening later than usual.
Space City Weather reports that the amount of snowfall has varied across the region, with some areas experiencing just fine dustings of ice and sleet, while others have received 3 inches or more of snow. With temperatures below freezing for most of the region, roadways are expected to be icy, and residents have been advised to stay off the road (Residents can track ice roads and closures here). Houston Mayor John Whitmire urged residents in a Monday night news conference to find somewhere to wait out the storm until Thursday. “We think maybe the freezing temperatures will never get above freezing until probably Thursday, so don’t let clear skies for Wednesday and other days fool you,” he said in the conference. “This is a serious arctic blast.”
So far, the power outages don’t seem as dire as when Hurricane Beryl hit Texas in July 2024. The hurricane hit the Texas coast hard, leaving more than 2 million Houston area residents without power — many for days. Centerpoint’s new outage tracker notes that Enzo has resulted in 103 outages in the city as of 9:15 a.m., leaving more than 8,000 customers without power. Over the last 24 hours, they’ve restored 774 outages and power to more than 19,000 residents, according to the map.
