defensive driving course VS deferred disposition

I (20M) recently got a traffic violation (that caused an accident) and I read about two programs that can dismiss your ticket. I was just wondering if they're the same thing, and if not, then what is the difference, and what should I choose?

Ticket is for an illegal left turn, that caused an accident.
