Dear Cyclists, Please Slow Down In Buffalo Bayou Park.

I walk/run in BBP every day. I use the pedestrian only paths whenever possible but sometimes it’s not an option. It seems like there has been a sharp uptick in cyclists being assholes to pedestrians over the past couple of months.

Trust me, I get it—pedestrians are dumb and will walk right in front of you while you’re riding. But also BBP is the premier park in the 4th largest city in the US, there are a lot of people out there walking that are not from here or may not be familiar with the proper etiquette.

I’m tired of seeing cyclists treat BBP like a race track. They weave in between pedestrians going road-speeds and won’t even yell ahead. The weather is changing so the park is packed this time of year—even if you yell ahead it can still be dangerous when you’re doing 20mph.

I own a bike and understand the challenges of riding in this city. But it’s ridiculous for us to complain about cars being dicks to us, then turn around and treat pedestrians the same way.
