Dead zone downtown?

I’m staying at MD Anderson for a few days, and I’m looking around pretty confused. I can’t find head or tail of any bars, much less night life in this area of downtown. Anyone have a good suggestion for where to get a drink round here? Pretty limited to let’s say a twenty block radius. TIA!
