Day Activity Suggestions

My girlfriend and I (+dog) recently moved from Minneapolis to Houston and we were curious if anyone had suggestions about fun day activities? We’ve been down to Galveston a handful of times and love spending the day at the beach, but we’re having trouble coming up with alternative ideas for things to do during the day on the weekends. We’ve done a fair amount of googling but any suggestions that may be not as obvious, as advertised, or local ‘secrets’ would be extremely appreciated!
